the Artists

Namwon Choi (b. 1976, Seoul, South Korea) is an artist based in Atlanta, GA. Choi is a painter who uses photorealist techniques with vernacular abstraction to demonstrate that emotional content and careful technique can exist in the same paintings. For the past 10 years Choi has made depictions of highways and skies in acrylic and gouache paintings on shaped panels. These paintings begin with iPhone dashboard images painted in blue monochrome but often end with layers of abstract shapes informed by highway road signs. Choi has two children in Marietta, GA and she is currently an Assistant Professor in Painting & Drawing in the Department of Art & Design at Augusta University in Augusta, GA.

Jay Jacobs is a self taught Augusta-based artist. Creating works that are deliberately ambiguous, his narratives allow viewers to construct their own meanings. His paintings, drawings and installations have been exhibited at CANDL, Butcher gallery, Touchstone gallery, the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, Slocumb gallery and Westobou Gallery.

Katie Kameen creates wearable art and sculpture by playfully experimenting with premade plastic objects. Kameen received her BFA in 3D Studio Art from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois, and her MFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She exhibits nationally and internationally and has been published in American Craft Magazine, Friend of the Artist, and Uppercase Magazine. Kameen is an assistant professor of 3D sculpture media at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia.

Joseph Kameen is a painter based in South Carolina, where he is an assistant professor of art at the University of South Carolina Aiken. Originally from Pittsburgh, he received his BFA in painting and sculpture from Boston University, and his MFA in painting from Indiana University Bloomington. Kameen’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including New York, London, Berlin, and Greece. His work has also been featured in a variety of publications, including Friend of the Artist, Emboss Magazine and PIKCHUR Magazine.

Chase Lanier earned Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting and Art Education from the University of Georgia, studying abroad in Cortona, Italy and Guadalajara, Mexico. He has worked with artists of all ages in summer camps, veterans’ programs, teaching high school art, and after-school programs. Currently, Chase is the art teacher at Academy of Richmond County. He has participated in juried exhibitions, curated a variety of group shows, and shown independently over the last 20 years.

Chase predominantly created paintings in oil, watercolor, and acrylic, though has recently explored sculpture. The visual narrative he has created documents attempts to give form to the unseen. Intrigue is the first guiding force in his work, enabling explorations with deviations and discoveries which present possibilities for engaging viewers. As intrigue begins the journey, the engagement of the viewer is the destination.

Jocelyn Pope is an emerging artist based in South Carolina, working with a focus in oil painting. She began her study of art while enrolled at Davidson Fine Arts, which encouraged her artistic development and exploration of several mediums including drawing and ceramics. Her technique often consists of small brushwork and vibrant colors. Her artistic concerns are topics such as race, gender, and belonging, acknowledging how they have shaped her personal narrative and life. While studying under multiple professionals, she has participated in numerous exhibitions spanning from Miami, FL to Washington D.C.

Edward Rice was born in 1953 in Augusta, GA and raised in North Augusta, SC. He was protégé of Freeman Schoolcraft from 1972-1979 and Director / Artist in Residence at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, Augusta from 1979-1982. The artist is the recipient of a South Carolina Arts Commission Artist Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts / Southern Arts Federation Regional Fellowship, and the Elizabeth O'Neil Verner Governor's Award.

His paintings have been included in numerous exhibitions and permanent collections across the United States.

Hasani Sahlehe (b. 1991) was born in St. Thomas, USVI. He graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2015. A 2023 recipient of the Macdowell Fellowship, his work has been the subject of a solo exhibition at Atlanta Contemporary. Sahlehe’s work was recently purchased by the High Museum of Art for their permanent Collection.

Staci Swider began her career as a textile designer in the home furnishings industry where she was known for her innovative designs and won many accolades. Today, her award-winning collage paintings infused with fiber art are exhibited in galleries across the Southeast. She is a juried member of the National Association of Women Artists and is trained as a Certified GOLDEN Artist Educator. Staci's book, Acrylic Expressions, along with four instructional painting videos, were published by Random House. When she is not traveling around the globe in search of inspiration, she makes her home in Aiken, SC.

Mary Grace Wynn is an artist based out of Augusta, GA. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The University of North Carolina at Asheville in 2013 with a concentration in Photography. A change from her previous art years spent focusing on film photography, Mary Grace is now working with drawing and painting. The freedom and accessibility to dig into different materials and see how they respond to one another have become essential in her latest work.
