Brittany A. Fields showcases her work as a result of Westobou’s year-long residency program. Brittany’s work focuses on themes surrounding world creation, identity creation and escapism. Utilizing the structures and textures of printmaking, drawing and installation; these themes are explored through a personal narrative, her observations and impressions of nature, and the cultural relations and stories surrounding animals and deities.

The winning piece in each district will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol, and the student artists will be invited to attend the national winners' reception in Washington D.C.

These drawings are homages to love and the grandeur created with minute particles of matter both in life and art. Rumors of Form is a three-person exhibition that explores painting's influence on contemporary textile practices, collage and assemblage sculpture. Caleb Jamel Brown, Coulter Fussell, and Y Malik Jalal share a Southern upbringing and a deep belief in materials' ability to posess truth. This notion is revealed by the artists' reliance on found materials, tying their work directly to their surroundings and previous owners of the objects.

Jacki Mayo Van Dyke’s work explores a multi-dimensional dream world of tricks and illusions we perceive from those senses, which often fail us. She aims to make viewers question what is real by exploring beyond our own perceptions of reality and to be awakened to the infinite possibilities of life.

The work incorporates the visual language of naval flags and nautical wayfinding, combined with romanticized objects of the American South as a means to communicate the psychological and the physical. These references signal the warning of a threat or the possibility of safe passage. Working beyond the physical image of the body, objects of buoyancy and navigation become metaphors for selfhood, resilience, and the sanity required in the turbulent oceans of contemporary America.
